Conference presentation

Due to climate change, there is a clear international commitment to reduce GHG emissions to values that can only be achieved by a combination of energy savings, efficient use of energy of fossil fuels and an increased worldwide use of renewable energy. This combined use of energy sources and energy savings is the main motive of the polygeneration concept.

Polygeneration means an energy supply system which delivers more than one form of energy to the final user. The energy supplied to the system could be provided by conventional sources, renewable energy or a combination of both. For example: electricity, heating and cooling can be delivered from one polygeneration plant. It refers to the combined production of electricity with heat, cold and any other useful products as it includes conventional cogeneration, trigeneration, as well as technologies for producing fuels and other value added products such as potable water, dry air, among others.

Many countries including Mexico have recently modified their energy and environment policies to reduce the dependency in fossil fuels and diversify its energy portfolio with a strong commitment to clean energy sources. This polygeneration conference IPC2017 will provide a source of information in new technologies and concepts on the most efficient ways to use energy resources.

The ICP2017 conference will be the fourth International Polygeneration Conference, as the first two IPC 2007 and ICP 2011 were held in Tarragona Spain, and the last one, ICP2015, was held in Chennai, India.

ICP 2017 is organized by the Instituto de Energías Renovables of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México together with the Comisión Nacional para el Uso Eficiente de la Energía of México and Universitat Rovira y Virgili of Tarragona, Spain.

The ICP2017 Conference will be held in the city of Cuernavaca, in the outskirts of Mexico City.
